Mwg

Mwg is named after an ensemble that never met, in turn named after the Welsh word for ‘smoke’. Mwg was adopted as a working title but – appropriately, perhaps – has stuck; the piece is the only substantive evidence of a group that, like smoke, vanished into thin air. The piece is light and sardonic but poses the serious musical question: when is a note-cluster a chord and a chord a note-cluster?
