This setting of a poem by Allen Ginsberg was written for the vocal trio Juice for a workshop performance at Cardiff University on 27th November 2007.
The music attempts to reflect the various layers of abruptly contrasting description in the poem. The underlying mood, however, is always languid, almost lethargic.
The piece is intended to be performed plainly as a ‘concert’ work. It may be possible, however, to present it semi-dramatically, perhaps with the performers walking on whilst singing and then sitting, as if on a porch watching the world going by. Details are left to the imagination of the singers…
